De Britse zanger en auteur Morrissey heeft The Bad Sex in Fiction Award ‘gewonnen’.
Zijn literaire debuut ‘List of lost’ werd dit najaar al weinig enthousiast ontvangen en nu dit.
Sinds 1993 wordt de ‘antiprijs’ uitgereikt aan de schrijver die de allerbelabberdste seksscene wist op te pennen.
De lauwe seks tussen hoofdpersonages Ezra en Eliza leidt nu in elk geval tot internationale bekendheid.

Het waren literaire critici Rhoda Koenig en Auberon Waugh van het Britse tijdschrift Literary Review die de Bad Sex Award destijds in het leven riepen. Ze wilde daarmee de aandacht vestigen op ‘slecht geschreven, oppervlakkige of overbodige’ passages in een roman die seks beschrijven. En ze worden op die manier ten stelligste afgeraden. Pornografische of expliciet erotische literatuur komen niet in aanmerking.
Behalve Morrissey maakten ook George Pelecanos (The Martini Shot), Richard Bausch (Before, During, After), Joshua Cohen (Book of Numbers), Tomas Espedal (Against Nature), Lauren Groff (Fates and Furies), Aleksandar Hemon (The Making of Zombie Wars) en Erica Jong (Fear of Dying) kans op de prijs.
